How does a painting relate to the frame, the material, the space, the viewer?

45cbm filled with a dramatically staged rite: the breaking up of painting. Harald Erath breaks with the two-dimensionality of the painting and expands it through the possibilities of space. The viewer is faced with the choice of being a silent voyeur or becoming part of the picture. Peppered with references to Christian iconography, perspective considerations and the conditions of being human: in search of something that lies beyond the visible.

Harald Erath (*1984) lives and works in Berlin. After studying painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart under Peter Chevalier, he studied stage and costume design under Peter Schuber at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee Berlin.
