A Publication like a Score: Between Future, Memory, and Artistic Becoming

The publication for the exhibition Auditions for an Unwritten Opera sheds light on the multilayered work of Mutlu Çerkez (1964–2005) and situates it within the context of a new generation of queer and conceptual art. Based on Çerkez's practice of titling his works with future dates, a dialogue about time, repetition, and life as material emerges.

Texts, image sequences, and conversations guide the reader through a complex network of perspectives, ranging from the works of Felix Gonzalez-Torres, On Kawara, and Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt to those of Jesse Darling, Hanne Lippard, and Egemen Demirci.

What does it mean to think of a work that is never finished? 
How can an exhibition be understood as a way of life? 
How does one prepare for a future that is still being written?

This publication is an invitation and a space for thought, an echo of artistic processes and an open archive of what has been, is, and could be.
