Painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, installation, video, performance - all genres that are not new. How do artists find their own formal language in times when the concept of art is expanding extensively? Can forward-looking tendencies be identified?

The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden and the Gesellschaft der Freunde junger Kunst would like to explore these questions together and offer a platform to the youngest art scene in the triangle of countries in the exhibition Übermorgenkünstler and thus actively contribute to their networking. Students and graduates of the art academies in Basel, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Mainz, Mulhouse-Strasbourg, Saarbrücken and Stuttgart have been invited to propose works for the Kunsthalle's exhibition spaces. This will bring young artists to Baden-Baden, a city that has no art academy of its own.

The exhibition will be extended into the urban space of Baden-Baden with site-specific interventions. Installations and sculptures in Lichtentaler Allee expand the sophisticated spa town into an exhibition space for the youngest generation of artists. At the same time, the Society of Friends of Young Art is tracing the roots of the young artists in the rooms of the old steam bath by presenting works by the respective academy professors. This makes it clear once again how since their founding, both institutions have been committed to promoting the very latest trends in contemporary art. This means that works by some of the artists will not only be on display in an institutional exhibition "the day after tomorrow", but already today.

From over 430 applications, 36 artists convinced the jury with their proposals, consisting of Anja Casser (Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe), Chus Martinez (HGK Basel) Petra von Olschowski (SABK Stuttgart), Johan Holten (Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden) and Johannes Hüppi (Gesellschaft der Freunde junger Kunst).

Participating universities: HGK Basel, HFBK Städelschule Frankfurt a. M., AdBK and HFG Karlsruhe, Kunsthochschule Mainz, HEAR Mulhouse-Straßburg, HBKsaar Saarbrücken and SABK Stuttgart
