This autumn, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden presents a comprehensive solo exhibition of works by czech artist Eva Kot’átková (*1982). In her work, Kot’átková examines educational and psychological concepts of disciplining and its effects on individuals and society. Her artistic means of expression range from collages, texts, and objects to installations with performative elements. In expansive experimental arrangements she reflects on topics such as corporal penalisation and fragmentation by apparatuses and predefined postures as well as the normative use of language. In this context, practices in educational institutions, hospitals, psychiatries and nursing homes serve as a source of inspiration. Works by Eva Kot’átková were exhibited at the biennals in Sydney and Venice, recently she received the Dorothea von Stetten award of the Kunstmuseum Bonn.
