Accompanying program to
Conditions of a Necessity

wer rastet, kann auch in den himmel schauen

Everyone needs a break and every highway needs a rest stop. At the transit point between setting off and arriving, between guard rails and wooded areas, no one wants to linger very long, but everyone does at some point. The highway rest stop appears as a symbol of a time that has long since passed its peak. Yet there is still someone there. Observes, tells us stories and above all: waits. Not for the return of the multi-ton trucks, but for a swarm of birds, for a certain crowd of migratory birds that is coming, that will surely arrive here soon… like every year at this time?

Based on material from the research project Raststädte, wer rastet, kann auch in den himmel schauen resonates the echo of the rest stop and negotiates forms of travel and migratory movements, resting and waiting, birds and travelers.
