Description

A certain contradiction inheres in the idea of presenting a history of wall painting in a museum exhibition, because the wall painting has always been a temporary matter. These temporary exhibitions in Baden-Baden and Bielefeld explore the genre of wall painting and other works that deal with the materiality of the wall. Taking works from the 1960s avant-garde as a point of departure, this catalogue explores the subject of wall painting from expressionism to contemporary graffiti in an attemt to arrest the fleeting medium of wall painting in its many different forms.
