Description

A certain contradiction inheres in the idea of presenting a histor of wall painting in a museum exhibition, because the wall painting is always a temporary matter. These temporary exhibitions in Baden-Baden and Bielefeld explore the genre of wall painting and other works that deal with the materiality of the wall.
Taking works from the 1960s avant-garde as a point of departure, this catalogue explores the subject of wall painting from expressionims to contemporary graffiti. The volume is complemented by installation shots showing the exhibitions in Baden-Baden and Bielefeld, attempting to capture the fleeting medium of wall painting in its multifarious forms.
