Description

For the exhibition “Body. Gaze. Power. A Cultural History of the Bath” Annette Ruenzler has produced an edition of her work “MPHA”. During the exhibition it is shown in the former Kneipp bath of the Friedrichsbad in Baden-Baden.

“In the twenties of the last century, smoking was propagated for women as a sign of independence. However, there was not an emancipatory movement behind this, but the tobacco industry. It had commissioned the world’s first PR agency to win over the female population as consumers of cigarettes in order to increase their sales.”

“What the ashtray and the pool have in common is that they are designed for simultaneous use by more than one person. Objects of the community.  Solidaric.”
